At the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the office of His
Excellency Kwesi Quartey, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission
on November 11, 2019. During the meeting between H.E. Kwesi Quartey and the
Executive Director of the Pan African Technical Association, Mr. Yaw Frederick Davis
and PATA colleagues, Mr. Bekalu Tesfaye and Ms. Samantha Jackson, the statues of
H.I.M. Haile Selassie and Dr. Kwame Nkurmah were discussed. H.E. Kwesi Quartey
stated that he would love to see a statue of the Right Excellent Honorable Marcus
Garvey here at the African Union.
The Pan African Technical Association www.pataus.org has joined forces with
Dr. Julius Garvey, the youngest son of the Right Excellent Honorable Marcus Garvey,
Strictly Roots and the renowned Los Angeles artist Mr. Nijel Binns to create the
Marcus Garvey Bronze. The clay bust of the Bronze is as shown. The completion
date is August 17, 2021.
The Marcus Garvey Bronze Sculpture Project is a multi-purpose project. We consider
Mr. Marcus Garvey as one of the Big Three of Pan- Africanism, along with H.I.M. Haile
Selassie and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. We also consider Mr. Garvey to be the
Grandfather of Pan Africanism and African Unification, calling for a United States of
Africa in the 1920’s and creating the largest organization of people of African
ancestry that the world has seen. It is our aim that the legacy of Mr. Garvey and the
UNIA & ACL be enshrined forever through a bronze sculpture at the African Union
Headquarters.
We would like to give Africans and the Diaspora renewed motivation to make the
dreams of the Three Pillars a reality through the creation of a United Africa with its
Diaspora.
